Company History / Resume

Nelson AeroDynamiX, Corp. was started by Kevin Nelson after a successful career flying search and rescue, law enforcement and environmental protection missions around North America, including Alaska and the Bering Sea. Kevin has extensive experience in both land and shipboard based helicopter operations and surface Coast Guard operations.

Kevin began his USCG career as a USCG Academy cadet and graduated with a commission as an officer. First, Kevin had to prove himself as 3rd then 2nd in command of a 180’ ship plying its skills in all the USCG mission areas in South East Alaska, home-ported in Sitka, AK.

After a successful tour of duty, the USCG accepted him into its aviator program where he attended Navy Flight School, training in airplanes then ‘graduating’ to helicopter training, eventually being winged as a “Naval Aviator” to fly the HH-65A Dauphin helicopter.

After tours in Florida, Alabama, Oregon, Washington, California, Alaska and the Great Lakes Region with many successes, awards and duties in addition to flying – Kevin planned and then ended his USCG career to return to his multi-generational entrepreneurial roots.

Nelson AeroDynamiX, Corp. was founded and based in Traverse City, Michigan. Initially NAC was operated as an FAA Part 135 On-Demand Charter Service with its own helicopter. NAC has evolved into the unique larger scope business you see now, serving many in the helicopter world.

Of note and highlight in NAC’s history:

NAC donated its time and some clients donated their helicopter to fly down for relief work just days after seeing the ravages of hurricane Katrina that left many in Mississippi and Louisiana desperate. After spending much of the first month after the storm in the region working in concert with the relief agency International Aid; NAC with the generous donation of its clients and armed with donations from citizens of Michigan communities - had provided thousands of pounds and millions of dollars of relief to the stricken region. Supplies were flown to people who had no outside contact for up to nine days after the storm. Networking and reconnaissance missions were flown, building the response to the area as a 'force-multiplier.'

As a result - Kevin Nelson and Nelson AeroDynamiX, Corp., the aircraft owner clients and International Aid were all awarded the Igor Sikorsky Humanitarian Service Award in 2005 for their efforts, contributions and results.

Also, Kevin Nelson has extensive helicopter operations experience and first hand experience in helicopter in-flight emergencies. He has learned much from the experience.
